Your three stars, explained after the Tips 4-1 win over Spokane on Friday:
1) Christiansen: Jake Christiansen had a big game tonight as he got his first goal of the year and an assist to give him 11 points on the year. The Silvertips were happy to see the output by Christiansen, not only because he is a defensemen but also because both points occurred on the power play. The Tips’ struggled with power play production earlier this season but have capitalized on the power play 3 games in a row. It seems like the start of things turning around.
2) Richards: Sean Richards continues to have a great season with another multiple point game with the first goal of the game and an assist on the empty netter. The first period did not seem to be the best start for the Silvertips but the big goal from Richie to start off the goal scoring really gave them the confidence and cushion that they needed to get through the first period. Richards received a beautiful pass from Bajkov through the slot and he was able to go top shelf on Dawson Weatherill to make it 1-0.
3) Fonteyne: Matt Fonteyne got the game winner tonight and he continues to wear the ‘C’ very well as he got his 11th goal of the season and 25th point overall. Fonteyne is averaging almost a point per game this season thus far. On his goal, Wyatte Wylie got the play going by feeding a pass to Christiansen and Christiansen quickly getting a pass off to Fonteyne where he wristed one past Weatherill from the left circle. Fonteyne, filling big leadership shoes with Noah Juulsen leaving, has been leading the team in big ways especially in moments during the season when the team has faced adversity through holes in the line-up and playing with a depleted line-up.
