The Silvertips extended their lead to five points for first place in the U.S. Division. The three stars, explained:
1. Dominic Zwerger: Dominic always seems to come up in big ways for the Silvertips and is a staple in the top line. The Silvertips are 11-2-2 when Dominic Zwerger scores a goal and his energy tends to really propel the team to solid victories. Zwerger is an X-Factor on the special teams, especially when it comes to the power play unit, and that was shown again tonight as both of his points came on the power play. Zwerger has 22 points spanning over the last 13 out of 15 games.
2. Kevin Davis: Kevin continues to be a huge part of the power play success for the Everett Silvertips. He is tied for third in power play assists in the league and had two points on the power play this afternoon. Kevin is widely known as the assist man but he got a power play goal this afternoon on a funky bounce that squeaked between Herringer’s pads. Davis described the goal from his perspective: “it just kind of went in–I was going to go backhand but I just kind of fumbled it and it went in; it was a nice pass by Sutter.” Davis commented that there had been struggles the last two games on the power play, “the last two games we weren’t crisp on our power play so it was nice to see that our power play was sharp.”
3. Riley Sutter: Riley had an offensive explosion today as he had three points overall, including the game winning power play goal. He is a big factor when he can get pucks past goaltenders as the Tips are now 9-0-2 when he scores a goal. All of his points came on the power play and he has proven to be a big factor for special teams. Although he doesn’t always produce power play points, he always generates plays to get things moving and cycles the puck very well down low, while also creating very effective screens in front of goaltenders. Sutter now has 26 points on the year.
