AFTERMATH! / Three Stars vs Kamloops, Explained

By Staci C. – Silvertips staff writer

They’re back into the big dance.

For the 14th time in 14 seasons, the Silvertips are headed to the playoffs after knocking off the Kamloops Blazers, 3-1. They got out to a lead with quick strike timing and never looked back. Here are the three stars:

1. Carter Hart: “Hartsy” continues to rock it night in and night out for the Tips. In back-to-back starts, he has made 77 saves and came within 45 seconds of his 19th career shutout on Saturday. With a huge win tonight, and the amount of shots he faced, his save percentage has improved to .0930—which is .0002 behind Connor Ingram for the best save percentage in the Western Hockey League. He continues to lead the WHL in two other categories–shutouts (8) and goals against average (1.91). Head coach Kevin Constantine said on Hart’s performance this week thus far, “I thought he was good both nights. He had to be good both nights because you know we gave up scoring chances and shots and it would have been tough to win either of those games without good goaltending and he gave us that.”

2. Patrick Bajkov: “Bajks” had another excellent game and is a big reason why the Tips have won 8 of the last 9 games. Bajkov had another multiple point game and now has 25 points in 24 games. He clicks with Fontenye and they are able to feed the puck very well to each other as they have been playing together for four years. His pass on the first goal to Fonteyne: excellent. Bajkov got the game winner and consistently has been able to find the back of the net this year for the Tips; Everett is 17-3-2 this season when Bajkov scores. Noteworthy: Patty took a puck to the face during the game, and only missed one shift. His dedication to the team is does not go unnoticed.

3. Kevin Davis: Mr. Offensive Defenseman is at it again as he got two assists tonight in Everett’s big playoff clinching win. About an assist on his goal, Bajkov said, “it was an unbelievable pass, it just hit my tape and went in. I just had my stick on the ice so yeah, unbelievable pass by him, and all the credit to him as well.” Davis now has 41 assists on the year, and is 7th in the Western Hockey League for assists by defensemen. Davs is also 11th overall in the league with points by a defenseman, holding 17 points in the last 21 games.

It would end well after that scoring update. Tomorrow: the Tips take on the Seattle Thunderbirds in Kent.
