AFTERMATH / #TipsPositives

By Staci C. – Silvertips Staff Writer

EVERETT, Wash. – Although the Everett Silvertips fell in a shootout on Sunday, there were many things to be proud of considering the Tips had a demanding weekend schedule and managed to walk away with five out of six points.

Patrick Bajkov had a highlight reel drop pass to Dominic Zwerger to set up his own goal and he continues to be impressive as he nabbed two points this evening, giving him 12 points in his last 11 games.

Patrick gave most of the credit to his linemate, Dominic Zwerger, he commented, “obviously Zwerger is a very talented player and getting him the puck is never a bad idea. He was able to make an unbelievable pass through traffic to find me backdoor.”

Bajkov has eight points against Spokane this season so far. With Patrick’s goal tonight, he now has 20 goals on the season and a total of 56 points on the season. He continues to lead the team in scoring and is 20th overall in scoring for the Western Hockey League.

Lucas Skrumeda had quite the game despite it being his first game back in two weeks.

“It was nice being back with the guys tonight,” said Skrumeda. “After being up top, you get a different perspective of the game but it was nice to be back out there battling with my teammates and good friends. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the win tonight but it was good to be back.”

After being up 2-0, Everett gave up two goals in the second for Spokane to tie it up 2-2. Twelve seconds after the Spokane goal, Skrumeda got the puck past Sittler to make the score 3-2 Tips.

Skrumeda commented about his goal, “[the strategy was] get it on net, get it away from me, I don’t want it and luckily it went in.”

It was energizing to see Lucas back in action and seize his third goal of the season in his first game back.

Head coach Kevin Constantine was impressed in spite of the result.

“We didn’t get home until 3 in the morning so if we’re ahead after the first then hats off to those guys,” said Constantine. “It’s tough to do, they worked hard, got themselves a point in a game that was their third game in three nights.”

Despite falling to the Chiefs, Everett is 15-3-4-1 in their last 23 games, and 20-3-2-1 at home this season.

Most importantly, the Silvertips are number two in the league, although tied with Regina in points–Regina has one game in hand.
