Back-to-Back: Carter Hart, CHL Goaltender of the Week

EVERETT, Wash. – The Everett Silvertips (@WHLSilvertips), in conjunction with the Canadian Hockey League, announced today that goaltender Carter Hart has been named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the second straight week, ending Dec. 3. He comes off his third straight WHL Goaltender of the Week award and 12th overall in his career.

Hart, 19, who was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the second round, 48th overall, of the 2016 NHL Draft, earned victories in two appearances last week, along with his franchise record 23rd shutout of his career. Hart posted a .984 save percentage and 0.50 goals-against-average with the Silvertips defeating Kamloops on Dec. 1, and following up Dec. 2 with a 3-0 victory on Teddy Bear Toss night in Everett against Saskatoon.

For both games, Hart was named second star as the Tips boosted their win streak to five consecutive games and stayed within a point of second place Spokane in the U.S. Division.

He is three shutouts away from tying the league record, set by Tyson Sexsmith (Vancouver).

Originally drafted by the Silvertips in the eighth round, 158th overall, of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft, Hart has played his entire WHL career with the Silvertips and has compiled a 95-43-9-10 record with a 2.07 goals against average and .924 SV% in 163 games with the club. Hart earned his 22nd career WHL shutout on November 22 against the Tri-City Americans, passing Leland Irving to become the Silvertips’ franchise leader in shutouts.

The Sherwood Park, Alberta native currently leads the WHL in goals against average (1.46) and SV% (.956). He’s tied for 8th in the league with 10 wins and leads the league with four shutouts this season. Last month, Hart represented Team WHL at the 2017 CIBC Canada Russia Series, earning a 20-save shutout in the opening game of the series at Mosaic Place in Moose Jaw, Sask. and was named Vaughn WHL Goaltender of the Month.
