EVERETT, Wash. – The Everett Silvertips (@WHLSilvertips), in conjunction with the Western Hockey League, announced today that goaltender Carter Hart is the back-to-back honoree for WHL Goaltender of the Week and nominee for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week award, for the week ending Nov. 26. It is the 11th time Hart has been named WHL Goaltender of the Week in his career.
Hart, 19, went 3-0-0 in all three games as the Silvertips swept their week in victories over Tri-City, Spokane, and Vancouver. The fourth-year Tips goaltender posted a .971 save percentage and stopped 99 of 102 shots, connected to a shutout at Tri-City on Wednesday which was the 22nd of his career, breaking the Silvertips all-time record set by Leland Irving.
The Sherwood Park, Alberta native was named first star of the game and WHL First Star of the Night on Wednesday’s win in Kennewick where he was named first star of the game with 43 saves and 21 in the third period, breaking Irving’s record which stood for a decade. The next night, Hart finished the week with 22 saves in the Tips third straight victory and ninth in 13 games (9-3-0-1), keeping the Giants off the board for a total of 33:02 while the Silvertips manufactured five unanswered goals. Since his return following injury absence for a month, Hart has a 1.63 goals against average and .951 SV% which lead the league in both categories. He’s also tied for the league lead in shutouts (3).
The 6-foot-2, 180-pound goaltender is second on the Silvertips career win list (93) and has a record of 93-43-9-10 record in 161 WHL regular season games with a 2.09 goals against average and .923 save percentage. Hart was the first goaltender selected in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, second round (48th overall) by the Philadelphia Flyers. Additionally, he represented Team WHL in this year’s CIBC Canada Russia Series and shut out Russia in a 7-0 victory in the series opener at Moose Jaw.
He is the first back-to-back winner of the goaltender award this season, and his Silvertips are two points behind Tri-City for second place in the U.S. Division and hold the first wild card spot.
