Carter Hart Recalled by Flyers to Lehigh Valley (AHL)

EVERETT, Wash. – The Everett Silvertips (@WHLSilvertips), proud member of the Western Hockey League and five-time U.S. Division champions, in conjunction with the Philadelphia Flyers, announced today that goaltender Carter Hart has been recalled to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the American Hockey League.

Hart, 18, was the first goaltender selected in last year’s NHL Entry Draft in the second round by the Flyers, and signed a three-year, entry level contract with Philadelphia on Oct. 2. Per NHL-CHL regulations, Hart is eligible next season to either join the Flyers or return to the Silvertips for his fourth season. The Phantoms open the Calder Cup Playoffs against the Hershey Bears on Friday.

The Sherwood Park, Alberta native completed back-to-back Silvertips MVP honors this season and recently was named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the second time this season, for the week ending April 2, 2017. He helped the Silvertips advance to the second round of the 2017 WHL Playoffs following a six-game series triumph over the Victoria Royals and notched a first-star performance by making 64 saves in a marathon game that set a Tips, WHL and CHL record for the longest game in history as the Silvertips squeezed out a 3-2 win in the fifth overtime of Game 6, clinching the victory after playing 151:36 of hockey.

He went 32-11-6-2 with a 1.99 GAA, .927 SV% and nine shutouts through 54 regular season appearances in 2016-17. On three prior occasions, he has been recognized with WHL Goaltender of the Week honors, including for the weeks ending November 20 and November 27, 2016, as well as for the week ending January 15, 2017.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound goaltender has gone 85-40-9-9 with a 2.13 GAA, .921 SV% and 19 shutouts in 149 career WHL regular season appearances. He second, all-time on the Silvertips career list in wins and shutouts, and is seven shutouts behind the league record set by Tyson Sexsmith of Vancouver. In 27 career WHL post-season contests, Hart is 11-12-4 with a 2.36 GAA, .922 SV% and two shutouts. He is 3-0 on the road in games where the Silvertips have forced elimination.
