Carter Hart: Vaughn WHL Goaltender of the Month
EVERETT, Wash. – The Everett Silvertips (@WHLSilvertips), in conjunction with the Canadian Hockey League, announced today that goaltender Carter Hart has been named Vaughn WHL Goaltender of the Month of November. He additionally comes off the 11th WHL Goaltender of the Week award of his career and CHL Goaltender of the Week honors for this week.
Hart, 19, who was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the second round, 48th overall, of the 2016 NHL Draft, compiled a 7-2-0-1 record, 1.29 goals against average, .960 SV% and three shutouts in November. Following Hart’s return, the Silvertips went 7-3-0-1 for the month and seized the first wild card spot in the Western Conference entering December.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound product of Sherwood Park, Alta. stopped 313 of the 326 shots sent his way in 602:47 of action throughout the month. He was twice named the WHL Goaltender of the Week in November, becoming the first WHL player to earn one of the league’s weekly honors in back-to-back weeks.
Originally drafted by the Silvertips in the eighth round, 158th overall, of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft, Hart has played his entire WHL career with the Silvertips and has compiled a 93-43-9-10 record with a 2.09 goals against average and .923 SV% in 161 games with the club. Hart earned his 22nd career WHL shutout on November 22 against the Tri-City Americans, passing Leland Irving to become the Silvertips’ franchise leader in shutouts.
He is four shutouts away from tying the league record, set by Tyson Sexsmith (Vancouver).
Hart was named the in-game first star on four separate occasions throughout the month, also being named the third star once. He was recognized as the WHL’s first star of the night twice and as the third star of the night once.
Hart currently leads the WHL in goals against average (1.63) and SV% (.951). He’s tied for 12th in the league with eight wins and is tied for the league lead with three shutouts this season. Earlier this month, Hart represented Team WHL at the 2017 CIBC Canada Russia Series, earning a 20-save shutout in the opening game of the series at Mosaic Place in Moose Jaw, Sask.
Hart and the Silvertips return to play tonight at Kamloops, beginning at 7:00 p.m. PT (1380 AM / FM 95.3 / WHL Live) and return home on Saturday, Dec. 2 for Teddy Bear Toss presented by Jersey Mike’s Evergreen Way, 7:05 p.m. against the Saskatoon Blades.
