Hart Named Back-to-Back WHL Goaltender of the Month
EVERETT, Wash. – The Everett Silvertips (@WHLSilvertips), in conjunction with the Western Hockey League, announced today that goaltender Carter Hart has been named Vaughn WHL Goaltender of the Month for December 2017.
Hart, 19, was selected in the second round, 48th overall, by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2016 NHL Draft, recorded a perfect 5-0-0-0 record, 0.60 goals against average and .983 SV% to guide the Silvertips through the first third of December. It is the second straight monthly award for Hart, current suiting up for the Canadian National Team at the U20 World Junior Championships in Buffalo, N.Y.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound goaltender stopped 171 of 174 shots over the five games, recording a pair of shutouts along the way. He was recognized as the WHL Goaltender of the Week and as the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week in back-to-back weeks.
The native of Sherwood Park, Alberta has earned WHL Goaltender of the Week honors four times this season while being named the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week three times as well. He was named as the Vaughn WHL Goaltender of the Month for November 2017.
In his five December games, he was recognized in the game’s three stars all five times, earning one first star award, three second star honors and a third star award. He was also recognized by the WHL’s nightly three stars, earning a second and third star honor throughout the first third of the month.
With Team Canada, Hart has a 1.96 goals against average, .920 SV% one shutout, and was named Player of the Game in the World Junior tournament’s outdoor game at New Era Field on Dec. 29 against the United States. Up next for Hart and Canada is the tournament semifinals on Thursday, Jan. 4, at 5 p.m. PT against Team Czech Republic.
In his absence from WHL play, Hart still continues to lead the league’s goaltenders, ranking first with a 1.32 goals against average, .961 SV% and five shutouts. Originally drafted by the Silvertips in the eighth round, 158th overall, of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft, has compiled a career record of 98-43-9-10 with a 2.05 goals against average, .926 SV%. He is the Silvertips all-time leader with 24 shutouts, second all-time in WHL history.
The Silvertips are back in action Friday, January 5 (7:05 p.m. PT, 1380 AM / 95.3 FM / Tips App / WHL Live) when they travel to Vancouver Island to take on the Victoria Royals.
