Jersey Mike’s: Fresh and Tasty Subs, Culture of Giving
By Annette Colombini – Silvertips Staff Writer
There’s an added degree of bedlam in Xfinity Arena when the Silvertips score four goals in a game. Fans rise to their feet. They cheer a little louder. They hold four fingers in the air.
Why? Is it because the Tips were 16-1 at home last season when they lit the lamp four times? Is it because Tips fans know they’ll score a BOGO coupon from Jersey Mike’s Subs on Evergreen Way? Or is it because an iconic Sesame Street song is about to be served up on the scoreboard?
You be the judge.
Whatever the reason, the relationship between the Tips and Jim and Deanne Larson’s Jersey Mike’s store at 4817 Evergreen Way certainly blossomed last season – on both sides.
How Did It Happen?
Silvertips staffers love a good sub! The more they frequented Jersey Mike’s, the more they got to know general manager Brandon Prince. Brandon’s new to Everett and was eager to get Jersey Mike’s name known in the local community.
Brandon worked with Joel Anderson, Silvertips Director of Corporate Partnerships. Together, they crafted a plan to drive more business to Jersey Mike’s on Evergreen Way by offering a buy-one-get-one-free coupon to fans in attendance when the Tips scored four or more goals.
“It was a bit of a risk,” Brandon said, “but it’s worked out great.”
That’s an understatement. To date, more than 2000 coupons have been redeemed. “The sheer numbers,” Brandon said, “it’s been even better than we expected.”
The BOGO coupon was later complemented by the Sesame Street video, which quickly became a fan favorite. In addition, Jersey Mike’s on Evergreen Way sponsors birthday messages presented at each home game.
Quality Organization from Top to Bottom
Brandon wants fans to know about Jersey Mike’s delicious subs – especially #13, “The Original Italian.” It’s their top seller. Every day.
But, perhaps even more, Brandon wants fans to understand what a quality organization Jersey Mike’s is. From storeowners Jim and Deanne Larson to the folks in corporate, Brandon has “fallen in love” with the company as a whole.
The culture, he said, is one of giving. “The people of Jersey Mike’s help to help. They give to give – not to get.”
This culture is highlighted each March during Jersey Mike’s Month of Giving. Stores encourage customers to donate $1, $3, or $5 to local charities. And, the company sets aside one day when 100% of sales – not just profits – are donated to charity. This year, Jersey Mike’s raised $5.5 million nationwide – including more than $3000 at the Evergreen Way location.
This culture of giving trickles down to the local level, too. Jersey Mike’s on Evergreen Way also sponsors the Silvertips’ Teddy Bear Toss and a number of other community events.
So, keep cheering when the Tips score four goals. Keep singing along with the Sesame Street counting song. And, keep supporting a culture of giving by redeeming those BOGO coupons at Jersey Mike’s on Evergreen Way.
More about Jersey Mike’s
Brandon Prince can’t say enough good things about storeowners Jim and Deanne Larson. “I just put in time and effort,” he said. “They do the rest.” The Larsons opened their first Jersey Mike’s location in Lynnwood than 10 years ago. The Evergreen Way location opened in 2015.
