Nikita Scherbak Scored in the St. John’s Playoff Opener, And All is Right.

Nikita Scherbak (Silvertips, 2014-15) scored in the St. John’s Ice Caps playoff opener in AHL action on Friday.

Charlie Lindgren made 28 saves in his playoff debut, helping St. John’s to a 2-1 win over Syracuse in Game 1 of the teams’ North Division semifinal series on Friday night at Mile One Centre.

Game 2 of the best-of-five series is Saturday.

Nikita Scherbak and Chris Terry scored for the IceCaps, and Charles Hudon recorded two assists.

Tye McGinn had the only goal for the Crunch. Mike McKenna stopped 19 of 21 shots in defeat.

Scherbak, who electrified downtown Everett with a high-octane skill set to help lead the Tips to a division title in 2014-15, made his NHL debut this season with the Montreal Canadiens and earned 13 goals and 41 points in 66 games with the IceCaps this season.
