RECAP » A Sudden Tri-City Turn

KENNWICK, Wash. – Morgan Geekie’s go-ahead goal with 1:04 to play lifted the Tri-City Americans past the Everett Silvertips, 5-4, before 4,475 at Toyota Center on Saturday in WHL action.

The Silvertips were supported by their top line again, with Matt Fonteyne, Patrick Bajkov, and Connor Dewar combining for seven points. Fonteyne led the Tips with three points and Kevin Davis added his first multi point game of the season with two assists.

Tri-City rallied from a 4-3 deficit in the third period, on Juuso Valimaki’s game-tying goal with 3:15 left and Geekie’s game winner, set up by Jordan Topping on a pass into the slot.

Isaac Johnson tipped a Carson Focht wrister past Tips starter Dorrin Luding for a 1-0 lead just 1:58 into the game and Fonteyne responded for a 1-1 tie on the power play at 4:29, burying a wrister from the right circle.

Tri-City seized a 2-1 lead at 1:39 into the second period on Dylan Coghlan’s first of the season, but the Tips ripped off back to back goals to seize a 3-2 edge. Orrin Centazzo, set up on the rush by Pavel Azhgirei’s first career assist, buried a rebound at the right circle at 5:04 and Fonteyne crashed the net for a tap-in rebound at 10:34.

Luding, exited the game to an injury, sustained after Valimaki crashed the net collied with the Tips goaltender at 7:17 of the second period. Hart entered one night after a 35-save, first-star effort in Kelowna, and furnished immediate saves on a pair of Tri-City chances, shortly before Fonteyne’s go-ahead goal.

Brett Leason finished off a tap-in at the right post with 4:30 left in the second to tie the game, but Dewar restored the Tips lead at 4-3 on a rebound after Beck Warm denied Patrick Bajkov between the circles at 2:39.

After the Silvertips turned the puck over deep in their own zone, Geekie successfully centered Valimaki, whose backhand deke tied the game.

Jordan Topping then helped carry the rush up ice, and his feed to the tape of Geekie set up a wrister to the top right corner of the net with 1:04 to play, and a 5-4 Tri-City lead.

Hart stopped 23 shots in relief of Luding, while Warm earned the win with 33 stops.

The Silvertips continue the nine-game road trip on Wednesday, visiting the Spokane Chiefs at 7:05 p.m. (Fox Sports 1380 & FM 95.3 / WHL Live / Tips App). The Tips return home Wednesday, Oct. 18 vs. Tri-City at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available at www.everettsilvertips.com/tickets.
