The first period started off great for the Silvertips as they started out putting more pressure on the Thunderbirds and getting more puck control than they saw in the first 20 minutes last night. Tyler Adams checked Eetu Tuulola in the head which gave the Silvertips their first power play of the game at 1:52. The Tips were unable to score on the power play but improved their zone entries immensely and got a lot of time in the offensive end.
At 7:05, a misplay with the puck let the Scott Eansor scoring an unassisted goal, giving Seattle the 1-0 lead. 51 seconds later, the Silvertips answer right back as Bryce Kindopp roofed the puck past Carl Stankowski to tie the game up at 1-1; Kindopp was assisted by Riley Sutter and Aaron Irving.
Connor Dewar went in all alone versus Stankowski and scored, giving the Silvertips their first lead of the series at 12:52, making the score 2-1. Everett’s lead was the first time in the whole playoffs that Seattle has trailed in a game.
The first period ended with Luca Skrumeda taking a high sticking penalty against Mathew Barzal, which gave Seattle 1:57 of power play time to begin the second period.
The penalty kill to start the second looked excellent for the Tips; Seattle was unable to get clean zone entries and Everett cleared the puck with ease. Less than two minutes after the first penalty was killed, Dominic Zwerger took an interference penalty, which gave Seattle another power play. Everett’s penalty kill continued to be strong and they were able to keep Seattle from scoring.
Right after the second penalty was killed, Austin Strand took a holding penalty, giving Everett another shot at the power play. Everett did not get many good looks on the power play and the score remained 2-1.
Things began to unravel midway through the second as a turnover lead to a tying goal by Seattle’s Zack Andrusiak at 11:12 to make it 2-2. Just 18 seconds later, another turnover lead to Sami Moilanen’s forehand deke and goal to give Seattle the 3-2 lead.
At the 15 minute mark, Jake Christiansen took a slashing penalty, giving Seattle another power play. At 16:34, Ethan Bear was able to wire a power play one-timer from the left circle to put the Tips in a two-goal hole.
At 12:33, the Tips were brought within a goal as Brandson Hein set up Eetu Tuulola with a fantastic pass and Eetu snuck a loose puck under Stankowski, cutting the deficit to 4-3.
Carter Hart was pulled for the sixth attacker late in the third and the Tips threatened but were not able to get the tying goal, ending game two in a one-goal defeat.
