RECAP / Century Mark Sunday

KENNEWICK, Wash. – In the final game of the regular season with playoff position and regular season accomplishments well in hand, the Everett Silvertips enjoyed a career high three points (2g-1a) from Brandson Hein, but a Tri-City Americans rally ending with a Jordan Topping hat trick finished the game, 6-5 in overtime before 4,190 fans at Toyota Center in Kennewick on Sunday in WHL action.

Completing four games in five days with the division title (and seizing seven points in that stretch) and top spot in the Western Conference well in hand, the Silvertips reached 100 points for the second time in franchise history.  Brian King recorded a multi point game while Mario Petit came within two saves of a career high total, making 39 stops.

Hein’s backhand tuck on starting goalie Evan Sarthou, exiting after allowing four goals on 23 shots, put the Tips up 1-0 at 3:07 of the first period. Morgan Geekie’s five-on-three stash tied the game at 6:12, but the Tips balanced the game to a 1-1 tie after 20 minutes.

Juuso Valimaki scored off the rush at 2:48 of the second period but Riley Sutter buried a turnover at the right circle at 4:42 to tie the score at 2-2. Hein then finished a spectacular two-on-one with Cal Babych at the left post at 13:22 for a 3-2 lead, and at 4:29 of the third period, Brian King finished Eetu Tuulola’s centering pass from between the circles for a 4-2 cushion. Sarthou’s day was finished, replaced by Rylan Parenteau.

Topping delivered his first goal off a snap shot from the right circle at 6:25 to cut the Tips lead to 4-3, but Connor Dewar buried a backhander with 6:12 to play in regulation to secure a 5-3 lead.

Tri-City pulled Parenteau and furnished back to back extra attacker goals, first on a Topping rebound with 2:16 to play and then on Dylan Coughlan’s off balance wrister from the right circle with 1:27 to play in regulation.

After the Tips nearly won the game on a Brandson Hein chance at the net, Topping returned up ice and finished a wrister from the left circle at the 2:40 mark.
