LANGLEY, British Columbia – Connor Dewar broke a scoreless tie with 2:10 left in regulation while Dorrin Luding turned in a 26-save shutout to lift the Everett Silvertips to a 1-0 victory over the Prince George Cougars on Saturday in pre-season action at Langley Events Centre.

With the win, the Tips improve to 3-1-0 in pre-season play and have won three games in a row, turning in their first shutout after combing to score 16 goals over last weekend’s tourney in downtown Everett. The Tips penalty kill neutralized all four Cougars chances, while Luding stopped 14 shots in the third period.

Next up, the Tips finish their visit to the Vancouver Giants pre-season tournament in Langley, B.C. and take on the Giants tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. The Tips return home next on Sept. 15 in their final home pre-season tune up against the Seattle Thunderbirds, 7:30 p.m. at XFINITY Arena. The Tips generated good looks early in the first period and despite a scoreless tie, turned in a 11-6 shots effort in the first period. Their second period was cranked by a 15-6 shots effort despite squandering three power plays.

Late in the third period, the Tips executed a critical penalty kill following a Montana Honeybunch boarding penalty. The door opened then on Dewar’s club leading fourth goal of pre-season play at 17:50, following a strong forechecking effort by Matt Fonteyne and Orrin Centazzo’s additional assist on the goal.

Luding turned away Prince George’s last effort on a late power play, when they pulled goaltender Taylor Gauthier for a six-on-four situation.

Gauthier, splitting goaltending duties with starter Tavin Grant, took the loss on 10 stops. Grant turned away all 22 shots faced.

NOTES: The Silvertips scratched Dylan Anderson, Patrick Bajkov, Pavel Azhgirei, Riley Sutter, Kyle Walker, Kevin Davis, Riley Bruce, and goaltenders Dustin Wolf, Blake Lyda, and Carter Hart … Dewar and Fonteyne each have seven points in pre-season play … Bajkov (Vegas), Davis (Minnesota), and Hart (Philadelphia) are currently with their NHL clubs for training camp … Silvertip penalty killing is now 17-of-21 in the pre-season.
