REGINA, Saskatchewan – Carter Hart made 26 saves while captain Noah Juulsen and Brian King each logged multi point games to help lift the Everett Silvertips to a thrilling 4-2 victory over the Regina Pats before 5,458 fans at Brandt Centre on Tuesday night in WHL action.
The Silvertips, winners of three of the last four games, ended the Pats’ 11-game winning streak and also ended a five-game winless streak in the season series, collecting their first win at Regina since Dec. 7, 2010. In a battle between the two clubs giving up the fewest goals per game (Silvertips at 2.3) and most goals scored per game (Regina at 5.2), the Silvertips never trailed and ten different players hit the scoresheet.
It only took 2:24 into the game for former Pat, Sean Richards to haunt his old club, feed Aaron Irving for a one-timer from the blue line and a 1-0 Silvertips lead.
Hart kept Regina at bay with nine saves and the Silvertips seized command with a trio of goals in the second period to take a stunning 4-1 lead. Lucas Skrumeda and Noah Juulsen worked a pass, point-to-point and a subsequent rebound found Brian King, who stashed his third of the season at 11:14 for a 2-0 lead.
Filip Ahl, becoming the first player to score on Carter Hart in 161:51, got Regina back in the game with his 24th goal of the season, but Juulsen and the Tips answered on his blast from the blue line at 17:55 for a 3-1 lead.
Bajkov then cashed in with 10.7 seconds left in the period for a 4-1 lead on an outnumbered attack, drilling a rebound past Tyler Brown after Dominic Zwerger was stopped at the left circle.
Former Silvertip Dawson Leedahl stashed a rebound at 2:41 of the third. But the Silveritps withstood one more power play and Carter Hart followed with a dazzling diving save in the last four minutes of regulation, followed by one more glove save on Regina’s six-on-five situation with 8.3 seconds to play.
Brown made 26 saves to take the loss.
