The Tips were able to gain the lead towards the end of the first as Matt Fonteyne snuck a puck between Skinner’s pads after a lot of traffic was generated around the Swift Current net to make it 2-1; Richards and Christiansen got the play going on the goal. At 19:01 Patrick Bajkov got got a puck past Skinner but it was blown dead due to a scrum that ensued in the Swift Current zone behind the play; Anderson received a slashing penalty and Richards received a boarding penalty. Both goaltenders faced 12 shots in the first.
Early in the second period, Colby Sissons took a high sticking penalty, giving Everett their first power play. Stuart Skinner shut the door with a save on Garrett Pilon midway through the second. The Tips had another power play at the 14:42 mark as Tyler Steenbergen went off for a slash but the Tips were unable to capitalize on the man advantage.
The Silvertips had great control the first half of the third period and held Swift Current to only three shots during that time. The game was decided by Gawdin at the 2:40 mark as he got the hat trick overtime goal from a wrister, inside of the right circle.
