RECAPS / Kings In Prince George

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. – A collection of ten players recorded a point, led by Patrick Bajkov’s goal and two assists and Riley Sutter’s pair of goals to lead the Everett Silvertips to a 6-3 victory over the Prince George Cougars at CN Centre on Wednesday.

The same day the Silvertips entered the CHL Top 10 rankings, they never trailed in their second straight win over the Cougars and outscored Prince George, 10-3 in two victories to halt the Cougars’ 8-0-0 start to the season.

Carter Hart made 19 saves to earn the victory while the Silvertips buried three power play goals on seven opportunities.

Bajkov started the scoring at 5:29 when he dangled Sam Ruopp and stashed a forehand deke around Nick McBride’s poke check for a 1-0 lead, and Sutter followed with a tap in power play goal, delivered by Bajkov’s cross-ice pass from the right circle at 7:36 for a 2-0 lead.

It wouldn’t last long. Brogan O’Brien drove the net and finished Jansen Harkins’ centering feed at 8:21 to get the Cougars on the board, followed by Aaron Boyd’s snipe off the rush nine seconds later to level the score at 2-2.

The Silvertips were stabilized by their second power play goal of the period, a bullet by Kevin Davis through traffic (set up by Bajkov and Dominic Zwerger) for a 3-2 edge at 15:54 of the period.

The Cougars continued to suffer penalty troubles and the Silvertips capitalized, and Graham Millar’s snapper from the left circle snuck through McBride’s five hole for a 4-2 lead at 1:38 of the second period. Just 1:23 later, Riley Sutter then stashed his second goal of the game from tight range at the left post, and the Silvertips chased McBride for Ty Edmonds with a 5-2 cushion.

Ruopp finished a cross-ice feed by Colby McAuley to slice the deficit to two goals at 15:27, but the Silvertips delivered a stunning blow the next shift, when Brett Kemp restored the lead to 6-3 on a deflection stemming from Brian King’s wrister at 16:11.

The Silvertips clamped down on the Cougars with an 8-7 shot margin and closed the game with the shots edge, 27-22.

McBride took the loss with five goals allowed on 13 shots, while Edmonds made 13 saves.

Friday delivers the first matchup of the season between the Silvertips and host Spokane Chiefs, starting at 7:00 p.m. (Fox Sports 1380 / Tips App) at Spokane Arena. The Tips return home on Saturday, October 15th to face the Seattle Thunderbirds at XFINITY Arena in Everett for the annual Pink The Rink game at 7:05 p.m. Ticket specials are available at http://everettsilvertips.com/pinktherink.
