SUTTER // Named Alternate Captain for 2018-19

EVERETT, Wash. – The Everett Silvertips (@WHLSilvertips), two-time Western Conference champions and six time U.S. Division champions of the Western Hockey League, announced today that forward Riley Sutter has been named the club’s alternate captain for the 2018-19 season in WHL play. He will wear an “A” on his Silvertips jersey while Connor Dewar, named Silvertips captain on May 31, will wear the “C.”

“Riley Sutter is a terrific example of dedication, work ethic, and results that make him an ideal candidate to wear a letter for this next season,” said Silvertips head coach Dennis Williams. “His game took major strides this season and reached a new level for us in the WHL Playoffs, opening the doors for the run we had. He’s completely bought in and the professionalism he demonstrates is a terrific example of what it means to be a Silvertip. He and Connor Dewar have traits to be extremely effective leaders for us this next season.”

“It’s an honor to get an opportunity to wear a letter and represent the Everett Silvertips,” said Sutter. “It’s special to understand from the coaches and management how they see me and Connor in our roles for next season. I’m fully aware it’s not just about being a leader at the rink but also showing good qualities off the ice. The last couple of seasons showed me what it takes to be successful and leave a legacy in this role after learning from players like Noah Juulsen, Matt Fonteyne, Patrick Bajkov, and Kevin Davis. I am excited to get the season started and will make every effort to uphold our culture of success.”

Sutter, 18, completed his third season with the Silvertips helping guide the club to their second Western Conference title and sixth U.S. Division championship with career highs in goals (25), assists (28), points (53) and plus-minus (+22) in 68 games. He went 52.4 percent at the face-off circle (715 of 1,364) this season and his five game winning goals were tied for fourth on the Silvertips.

A participant last week at the NHL Scouting Combine in Buffalo, the 6-foot-3, 205 pound forward skated in the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in Guelph, Ontario last season and has 96 points, 46 goals, and 50 assists in 166 career WHL games, all with the Silvertips. His +17 rating was tied for third in the WHL Playoffs and he earned 19 points (9g-10a) in 21 postseason games, also leading the Silvertips in playoff game winning goals (3).

Finishing among the top ranked North American skaters in the Final Rankings (#117) of players eligible for the 2018 National Hockey League Entry Draft, released by NHL Central Scouting, Sutter had five multi point games in the playoffs and tied for the Silvertips lead in points (5) in the Rogers WHL Championship Series. During regular season play, he was one of four Silvertips to earn a hat trick and his career high five point game (4g-1a) on Dec. 27 included four goals, tying the franchise record for most goals in a game.

The 1999-born (late birth year category) forward had 13 multi point games and three multi goal games during the regular season.

Riley’s father, Ron skated 19 seasons as a forward and two-year captain in the National Hockey League with Philadelphia, St. Louis, Quebec, Boston, Phoenix, San Jose, Calgary and the New York Islanders. His Uncle, Darryl led the Los Angeles Kings to two Stanley Cup championships as head coach. Riley’s family includes ten former players who have suited up in the WHL.

The pre-season and regular season schedule for the 2018-19 season will be announced soon. Silvertips season ticket or mini-plan packages for the 2018-19 season are available at or by calling (425) 252-5100.
