EVERETT, Wash. – A hat trick from Spokane Chiefs forward Riley Woods held off an Everett Silvertips comeback as Woods won it for the Chiefs in overtime, 3-2, before 4,517 fans at A.O.T.W. Arena on Sunday afternoon in WHL action.

Wyatte Wylie and Dawson Butt helped lead the Silvertips out of an early 2-0 deficit to force overtime, while Dustin Wolf, replacing Max Palaga in the first period, turned in 21 saves and stopped the first 20 shots he saw.

Woods opened the game with two power play goals at 6:24 on a wrister off the rush and 8:42 on a deflection at the net. Spokane defenseman and Devils prospect Ty Smith chimed in two assists on the opening two goals. As the first two Spokane shots turned into goals, Everett’s replaced starting goaltender Max Palaga (3 saves on 5 shots) with Dustin Wolf.

Everett-native and Flyers prospect Wyatte Wylie cut the Chiefs lead to 2-1 with a power play goal at 11:15, his fifth goal of the season. Dewar’s initial shot on the play was blocked by traffic, then picked up by Wylie where he snapped a wrister blocker-side that beat Chiefs goaltender Bailey Brkin.

The Silvertips had the edge on shots, outshooting the Chiefs 11-10 in the opening frame.

Everett forward Dawson Butt showed off his strength with a goal at 6:00 into the second. Butt intercepted a Chiefs pass near the Everett bench, drove to the net from the left wing and dangled a forehand shot glove side.

The Silvertips defense stood strong as they held Spokane to only five shots in the second. The Tips racked up 13 shots in the second, totaling 24 through two periods.

A scoreless third period sent the match into overtime. The Silvertips hammered 15 shots on goal in the third with a total of 39 shots in regulation time, nearly winning it in the final minute on a Bryce Kindopp rebound at the net.
