Tips Get Conditional 6th Rounder from Kootenay for Mario Petit
EVERETT, Wash. – The Everett Silvertips (@WHLSilvertips) and general manager Garry Davidson announced today the club has acquired a conditional sixth round selection in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft from the Kootenay ICE in exchange for goaltender Mario Petit.
“Making a move to find a home for an individual like Mario is necessary for our roster situation, but can be difficult to face at the same time,” said Davidson. “He made strides in his game and carried a great attitude. Mario will always be a part of our family, and we wish him nothing but the best as he prepares for his overage season.”
Petit, who turns 20 on July 25, has a record of 14-8-7-1 in 37 career appearances with the Silvertips, additionally posting a save percentage of .892 and a 2.89 goals against average. The 5-foot-11, 180 pound netminder was WHL Goaltender of the Week on Mar. 27 during the 2015-16 playoffs and is 3-0-0 with a shutout and .953 save percentage in four games for his postseason career.
The Silvertips currently have three goaltenders signed to WHL standard player agreements:
- Carter Hart (1998 born)
- Dorrin Luding (1999 born)
- Dustin Wolf (2001 born)
They have eight players eligible to return in their overage season:
- Noah Juulsen (D)
- Kevin Davis (D)
- Matt Fonteyne (C)
- Patrick Bajkov (RW)
- Devon Skoleski (F)
- Cal Babych (F)
- Mackenzie Dwyer (D)
- Keith Anderson (RW)
WHL Clubs are allowed a maximum of three 20 year old players on their roster. Clubs having more than three overage players to start the season may continue to rotate them in and out of the lineup until a date determined annually in mid-October at which time they must declare the three that will remain on their roster.
Silvertips training camp and 2017-18 schedule information will be announced soon.
