PRINCE GEORGE, British Columbia – Carter Hart recorded his first shutout of the season and 20th of his career while Matt Fonteyne scored a goal and added an assist to lift the Everett Silvertips to a 4-0 victory over the Prince George Cougars before a crowd of 3,389 at CN Centre on Saturday in WHL action.

The Tips seized three points in a possible total of four on their only two-game visit to Prince George this season, and are unbeaten in regulation for five of the past six games against the Cougars. Kevin Davis, Sean Richards, and Riley Sutter added second period goals.

Hart’s shutout moved him one shy of Leland Irving’s franchise record (21), while Patrick Bajkov earned an assist to move to third on the Tips all-time scoring list with 215 points, surpassing Shane Harper. His next goal or assist ties him for second with Joshua Winquist.

NEXT UP: The Silvertips return home for three home games in a five-day span, starting Wednesday when they host the Prince Albert Raiders in the only meeting of the season. Face-off is 7:05pm at XFINITY Arena and tickets are on sale at www.everettsilvertips.com/tickets.

Fonteyne raced coast to coast for a spectacular backhanded deke and goal to put the Tips up 1-0 with 4:16 to play in the first period, slipping his bid through Tavin Grant’s five hole.

The Tips then exploded for a trio of goals in the second period to cruise to a 4-0 lead. Kevin Davis blasted a point shot through traffic just 22 seconds into the frame for a two goal edge, and then Riley Sutter cashed in for a 3-0 lead at 9:11 when he skated to the net and successfully deflected Brandson Hein’s feed from the left wing.

Sean Richards then took Riley Sutter’s feed and got behind the Prince George defense. He shoveled a backhanded deke past Tavin Grant’s glove for a 4-0 bulge, with 1:59 to play.

The Silvertips kept Prince George at bay in the third period as Hart stopped all seven shots turned his way.

His counterpart, Grant, survived only 40 minutes and allowed four goals on 31 shots. Replacement Isaiah DiLaura stopped all five shots in the third period, including a breakaway by Connor Dewar.
