TIPS WIN: We won the Star War

EVERETT, Wash. – Patrick Bajkov tied a career high with five points and earned the second hat trick of his career, while Garrett Pilon posted a career high four points to help the Everett Silvertips smash the Kelowna Rockets in an 8-2 victory, before a crowd of 6,758 on Saturday in downtown Everett in WHL action.

The Silvertips swept the Rockets in this weekend’s home and home battle royale, posting eight goals or more in a game for the fourth time this season. The Tips extended their lead to three points for top record in the Western Conference, scoring five unanswered goals to run away after leading the game, 3-2.

Bajkov moved to within one goal of tying Tyler Maxwell’s record for most goals in a Silvertips career and Carter Hart, who made 23 saves, moved to within a victory of tying Leland Irving’s franchise high.

Just 18 seconds into the first period, Everett went on their first power play and 45 seconds into the game, Everett had their first goal on the power play by Patrick Bajkov with assistance from Davis and Pilon to make it 1-0 Tips as Bajkov fired a wrister from the right circle.

On the very next shift, Cal Foote for the Rockets got the equalizer at 59 seconds to make it 1-1. The first few minutes were a little sloppy but the Tips were able to get it back at 11:51 when Kevin Davis fired a laser beam at the point to make it 2-1 Tips, thanks to help from Richards and Bajkov. The fans got riled up when Kyle Pow and Dawson Butt dropped the gloves at 16:54.

At 2:19 into the second period, a misplay by Kelowna led to a goal for the Silvertips, credited to Garrett Pilon after Gordie Ballhorn put the puck into his own net, making it 3-1. Pilon was credited with the goal as he was the last to touch the puck and Kindopp got the assist. The misplay coincidentally ended up being the game winner for Everett.

Cal Foote got his second goal of the evening at 5:39 to make it 3-2. After the Foote goal, it was all Tips for the rest of the game. Riley Sutter got a nice tap in goal thanks to smooth passes from Pilon and a hard wrist shot by Butt to make it 4-2 at 10:57.

Patrick Bajkov got his second of the night at 19:39 making it 5-2 Tips with help from Sean Richards, as Bajkov waited out goaltender Cole Tisdale and stashed a wrister from the left circle. The Tips streamrolled Rockets in shots, 24-5 in the period.

The hat’s rained down in the third period as Patrick Bajkov got his second career hat trick at 12:14 with assists from Dewar and Wylie to make it 6-2 Tips on Bajkov’s rebound at the left post.

Kelowna took two consecutive penalties at the end of the third period and while Everett was on the 5-on-3 advantage, Pilon got his second goal of the night, making it 7-2 Tips at 18:46; assists from Patrick Bajkov and Matt Fonteyne on Pilon’s one-timer at the top.

The scoring did not stop there; with 2.6 seconds left, Martin Fasko-Rudas got the buzzer beater at the left post to make it 8-2 Tips with an assist from Kyle Walker.

Tisdale made 26 saves for Portland before being relieved by Salmond, who made 8 saves.

The Silvertips are now 34-17-1-2 with 71 points, first place in the U.S. Division and the Western Conference. the Tips improved to 4-0-1-1 in the last six games at home against the Rockets and improved to 3-0-0-0 in the season series. the last meeting will be in Everett, March 2.
