Carter Hart Attends Hockey Canada Goalie Camp

EVERETT – Everett Silvertips goaltender Carter Hart attended Hockey Canada’s 10th annual Program of Excellence goaltending camp, which took place from June 12-14 in Toronto, Ontario.  Hart is one of only seven camp invites in the Under-18 category as candidates for Canada’s 2016 National Men’s Under-18 Team.

Five current WHL goaltenders and four prospective WHLers are among the 34 total netminders invited to this year’s camp, with nine falling into the Under-20 category (candidates for Canada’s National Junior Team)  and an additional 18 players in the Under-17 classification (candidates for the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge).  CLICK HERE for the complete camp roster.

Hart, 16, burst onto the WHL scene last season as a rookie for the U.S. Division Champion Silvertips.  Formerly an eighth-round pick (158th overall) in the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft, Hart led the league’s goaltenders with a 2.29 goals-against average and tied for second with a .915 saves percentage while compiling an 18-5-2-3 record and four shutouts in 30 appearances.  He was named CHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending March 8 and won 13 of his last 18 regular season starts. The Sherwood Park, Alberta native then started all 11 playoff games for Everett, tying for second among playoff goalies with a 2.28 GAA and ranking third with a .929 SV%.

“We have tremendous goaltending talent across the country; this opportunity to bring them together for a three-day camp is key in the success of their ongoing growth and development,” said Fred Brathwaite, Program of Excellence goaltending consultant with Hockey Canada. “This is an excellent opportunity for not only the players, but all of our staff and coaches to come together for instruction and development both on and off the ice.”

The camp included both on and off-ice sessions with instruction from Frédéric Chabot (Hockey Canada), Ryan Cyr (Spokane, WHL), Paul Drew (Charlottetown, QMJHL), Ian Gordon (Seattle, WHL), Mike Rosati (Barrie, OHL), Paul Schonfelder (Ottawa, OHL), Maxime Vaillancourt (Blainville-Boisbriand, QMJHL) and Andrew Verner (Peterborough, OHL).

Also included in the three-day camp are members of Hockey Canada’s goaltending advisory board, who will work with the players and instructors: Corey Hirsch (Hockey Canada), Brady Robinson (Victoria, WHL), Dwayne Roloson (Anaheim, NHL), Mike Valley (Dallas, NHL) and Rick Wamsley (Ottawa, NHL).
