Everett can’t get on track vs Red Deer
EVERETT – The Everett Silvertips broke out of their recent scoring drought Wednesday night at Comcast Arena, but ultimately fell 4-2 to the Red Deer Rebels on home ice. The game was Everett’s lone home date in a seven-game stretch, with their next chance to snap a seven-game winless streak coming Friday night in the Tri-Cities against the Americans.
Tyler Sandhu scored his fifth goal of the season, while Landon Oslanski matched his career high with his sixth of the year. Nick Walters assisted on both Silvertips goals and Dawson Leedahl earned his first career WHL point with an assist. Goaltender Daniel Cotton (5-4-0-0) turned away 25 of the 29 shots he faced.
The Silvertips created scoring chances in the first, but the Rebels came out with a two-goal lead after 20 minutes. Just after a ‘Tips powerplay expired, Red Deer rushed the puck into the Everett zone and Turner Elson connected with Matt Dumba for the game’s first goal. Then with just 13 seconds left in the period, the Rebels pinned the Silvertips in their defensive zone before Tyson Ness snapped a quick shot through traffic and behind Cotton to make it 2-0.
Everett got on the board early in the second period, halving the lead as Tyler Sandhu grabbed the rebound of a Nick Walters shot out front and backhanded it into an open net. Red Deer responded midway through the period with a powerplay goal when Connor Bleackley floated into the high slot and fired a wrister into the top corner, making it 3-1. The Silvertips cut the lead back to one just over a minute later however, with Landon Oslanski scoring on the backhand off a feed from Ty Mappin behind the net.
Trailing just 3-2 in the third period, the Silvertips again fell behind by two as Cody Thiel stepped out from behind the net and snuck a shot inside the post for the only goal of the third period at 5:26. Everett outshot Red Deer 11-5 in the last 20 minutes, but was unable to draw closer in the 4-2 defeat. The Silvertips couldn’t capitalize on four powerplay opportunities in the contest, while the Rebels scored on their only powerplay of the night. Red Deer goaltender Patrik Bartosak (8-6-1-0) stopped 27 of 29 shots he faced as the teams finish even with 29 shots apiece.
