Join us at Imagine Children’s Museum!
Bring the kids to Imagine Children’s Museum (1502 Wall Street in downtown Everett) Thursday from 5:30 to 7 pm for a chance to meet some of your favorite Silvertips players! The Silvertips will be on hand to play floor hockey, sign autographs and pose for pictures with young fans during this special after-hours event at the museum. Our rambunctious mascot, Lincoln, might even stop by to have some fun with the kids as well. Museum members get in free and non-members are only $3.00 per person at the door, with the money going to support Imagine’s “Tuesday Tales” youth literacy program!
Tuesday Tales helps children develop a greater appreciation of literature and helps caregivers build the confidence to read with their child. To extend the reading experience beyond the book and connect it to a real-life experience, an art project related to the theme of the story is offered in the Museum Art Studio. By relating the themed “works of art” to a story, a connection is created for the children between book, their imaginations, and real life experiences.
Research shows that reading aloud with children helps to form the foundation of literacy learning. Reading with children provides them with critical school readiness skills including:
• Expanded vocabulary
• Better understanding of grammar and correct sentence structure
• Longer attention span
• Improved ability to express themselves clearly and confidently
• Opportunities to imagine and explore places, cultures and ideas they may not otherwise
The Tuesday Tales literacy program is one of the many playful learning programs that Imagine Children’s Museum offers visitors throughout the year. Unlike the Museum’s educational enrichment programs and classes, the playful learning programs do not require pre-registration and are offered free with Museum admission.
