Murray Receives Western Conf. Accolades

CALGARY, AB – Everett Silvertips Captain Ryan Murray received a pair of honors from the Western Hockey League Thursday, being named a Second Team Western Conference All-Star and the Western Conference finalist for the WHL Most Sportsmanlike Player award.  The Western Conference All-Stars and award finalists were announced Thursday afternoon at a press conference in Calgary officially launching the 2012 WHL playoffs.

In addition to his All-Star nod, Murray joined Eastern Conference nominee Mark Stone of the Brandon Wheat Kings as the two finalists for the WHL’s 2012 Most Sportsmanlike Player Award.  The recognition adds to an already impressive resume for the 18-year-old blueliner, who became just the second player in Silvertips history to represent Canada at the World Junior Championships this year.  He also Captained Team Cherry in the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game on February 1 in Kelowna and is expected to be one of the first players chosen in this summer’s NHL Entry Draft after being rated #3 among all draft-eligible North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting.

Despite being limited to 46 games this season due to injury and the World Juniors, Murray helped lead the Silvertips into the playoffs with a second-half surge that saw the club end the season on a 12-10-1 stretch and secure the #8 seed in the Western Conference.  The White City, Saskatchewan native led all Silvertips defenseman and ranked seventh on the team in scoring with 31 points on 9 goals and 22 assists.  He also finished with a team-leading 16 powerplay assists, an even plus/minus rating and 31 penalty minutes.

The Silvertips open the playoffs Friday and Saturday with Games 1 and 2 of their first-round series against the Tri-City Americans in Kennewick.  The series will shift to Everett for Games 3 and 4 at Comcast Arena.  Silvertips ticket packages for the 2012 WHL playoffs are on sale now at the team office located at Comcast Arena or by phone at 425-252-5100.  The Silvertips office is open weekdays, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.  Single-game playoff tickets are also available now at the Comcast Arena box office, online at or by phone at (866) 332-8499.
