Silvertips Lose In Kelowna
Team endures third straight loss
Everett Silvertips Press Release
Kelowna, B.C. - The Everett Silvertips lost to the Kelowna Rockets 5-1 in their Western Hockey League game on Wednesday night, January 30th, at Prospera Place in Kelowna. Shane Harper earned Everett's lone goal as the team finishes their regular season series against the Rockets with an even 2-2 record. Overall, the Silvertips record is now 29-23-0-2 (60 pts.) as are still third place in the U.S. Division and fifth place in the Western Conference.
The Rockets used the first period to open up at 2-0 lead. Milan Kytnar picked up the first of the goals at the 10:24 mark. That was followed up by Evan Bloodoff at 17:19 when he stole the puck deep in the Everett zone and put it in behind Silvertips goaltender Leland Irving.
Kelowna repeated the two goal feat in the second period. Brandon McMillan scored a while on a power play at 12:41, and Kyle St. Denis popped the puck into the Everett net on a great individual effort at 16:25. Unlike the first period though the Silvertips were able to get on the board. Shane Harper finally beat Rockets goaltender Torrie Jung in the final moments at 19:20.
Everett never could get anything going in the final 20-minutes. Penalty troubles midway through the period all but officially ended any hopes of a possible comeback. Brady Leavold picked up credit for the fifth and final Rockets goal of the night while on a power play at 10:18.
The Silvertips take to the ice again on Saturday for a home game at Comcast Arena at the Everett Events Center. The Vancouver Giants will be making their final regular visit of the season for a 7:05 p.m. start time. The team won't play again until next Wednesday, February 6th, when they take to the road to face-off against the Spokane Chiefs at 7:00 p.m.
