Emergency Food Drive Nets Record Donations
Everett Silvertips Press Release
Everett, WA - Everett Silvertips Vice President / General Manager Doug Soetaert announced Wednesday that the Emergency Food Drive, conducted during the Saturday, November 14th game against the Seattle Thunderbirds, gathered a total of 4,460 pounds of food to the Volunteers of America Western Washington Food Bank, roughly the equivalent of 3,540 individual meals. The food bank, which had reported a dwindling supply of inventory due to a 14% increase of clients, had called on local businesses earlier in the week to assist in restocking its shelves.
"Our loyal fans continue to come through to restock the shelves of the food bank," Soetaert said. "We're delighted with the way the community once again displayed their generosity."
The collection more than tripled the previous record of pounds of food donated by Silvertips fans in one collection, established two seasons ago during the Silvertips' "Make Noise for Hunger" campaign. It was the second food drive of the season after a similar effort during training camp's Green-Grey game provided over 1,200 pounds of food.
Fans were asked to bring in canned goods and non-perishable food items to assist the Snohomish County-based food bank, which now serves over 5,000 individuals each month, 70% of which are children and seniors.
The Silvertips continue the 2009-10 season at home tonight against the Kamloops Blazers. For ticketing information, please visit www.everettsilvertips.com, or call the Silvertips offices at (425) 252-5100.
