SILVERTIPS: The final game of the preseason means one final tune-up for some, and one final chance to make a roster spot case for others. The finish line of exhibition season is tonight at XFINITY Arena in the second meeting between the Silvertips and Royals, with Everett, overall, aiming for a split of the weekend’s two games. The Tips dropped a 7-4 defeat last night to the Portland Winterhawks, and face the Royals for the first time since Sept. 4 in a 5-4 victory. Patrick Bajkov had the game winning goal in a wild third period finish, while Austin Lotz stopped 39 shots (outdueling Coleman Vollrath’s 24 stops in the process).
Dawson Leedahl’s six points (2g-4a) in five games leads the Silvertips in preseason scoring, while Yan Khomenko and Matt Fonteyne each lead the Silvertips with three goals.
Carter Hart, seeking a rejoinder from last night’s defeat to Portland (21 saves), is expected to start in net tonight. The Silvertips are expected to suit up defenseman Mackenzie Dwyer (3 points in 4 games), forwards Spencer Gerth and Brian King, all who sat out last night.
ROYALS: The Royals wrap up a western Washington swing tonight after a 4-1 victory last night over the Seattle Thunderbirds. Vladimir Bobylev earned the game winning goal for the second straight outing, helping the Royals earn their third win in four preseason games. Defenseman (’99 born) Scott Walford has erupted with seven points in six games to lead the Royals in preseason scoring.
Chaz Redekopp (Los Angeles), Jack Walker (Minnesota), Joe Hicketts (Detroit), Evan Smith (Nashville) and Greg Chase (Edmonton) are names with the Royals not in action tonight, currently skating in respective NHL training camps.
