EVERETT – The Everett Silvertips are making final preparations for the start of our 11th season in the Western Hockey League tonight when the Prince George Cougars visit Comcast Arena for a 7:05 pm opening faceoff. The game marks the second straight season the Silvertips have opened on home ice against the Cougars, following last year’s 10th Anniversary celebration.
After an impressive 7-0 run through a preseason in which they averaged more than five goals per game, the Silvertips are looking to open the season with a win for the first time in three years. Everett’s active roster currently includes 26 players (16 forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders), with defenseman Mirco Mueller away with the NHL’s San Jose Sharks. 17 of the 26 are returners from last year’s Silvertips, while eight are embarking on their rookie WHL campaigns. Forward Jujhar Khaira, who is currently with the Edmonton Oilers, is still a candidate to end up with the club as well.
The Silvertips are using our opening night festivities to “Fill the House” and help raise money for Housing Hope, a local organization which has been providing housing opportunities for low-income families throughout Snohomish County for over 25 years. When you Click Here to buy your tickets for the game by 3 pm today, five dollars off every ticket ordered goes back to support the valuable programs provided by Housing Hope. These special “Fill the House” tickets start at just $15 in the upper level and $20 in the lower bowl and are only available via the link above.
As the Silvertips host the opening night of a new season today, Comcast Arena at Everett is also holding a 10th Anniversary Block Party to recognize this milestone and thank the fans for their patronage through the years! For just the third time in the building’s history, Hewitt Avenue will be closed off to accommodate the day’s festivities. From 11 am to 5 pm, guests can expect great music from local bands Weatherside Whiskey Band, Shaggy Sweet, and Br’er Rabbit. Food trucks and a beer garden will be onsite for the grown-ups, with a giant climbing wall and extreme air and bouncy houses for the kids.
