Introducing Silvertips Alumni Weekend
A strong contingent of former players, fans, sponsors and supporters took part in our first-ever Silvertips Alumni Weekend, which kicked off our 10th Anniversary season with a dinner and golf outing on Friday and Saturday. A total of 26 former Silvertips representing every era of the team’s history returned to Everett to take part in the festivities, where they were joined by a number of former staff members, including coaches John Becanic and Jay Varady and previous broadcasters Keith Gerhart and Jon Rosen.
The weekend began with Friday’s Alumni Dinner at the Edward D. Hansen Conference Center inside Comcast Arena. “The Fish” Jeff Aaron emceed the dinner and entertained the crowd, while the alumni players visited with fans, gave updates on life after Silvertips hockey and filled the room with stories and memories about their time playing in Everett. In the presence of so much team history, the ‘Tips also gave fans a glimpse into the future with Austin Adam and Manraj Hayer helping to unveil the new logo and uniforms the club will use during the 2012-13 WHL season.
Saturday’s golf outing allowed players, fans, sponsors and current/former staff members to enjoy a great round at beautiful Kayak Point Golf Course in Stanwood. Former players and broadcasters re-lived the team’s first years and discussed their favorite memories during a live, on-location broadcast of “The Locker Room” on Fox Sports 1380 AM at midday leading up to the 2:00 pm shotgun start. A great August afternoon on the links was finished off afterward with a post-round banquet in the clubhouse featuring prizes and raffle giveaways for participants.
The Silvertips would like to thank everyone involved for making our first alumni event a great success as we prepare to open our 10th season in the WHL! Stay tuned for more information on other special events to come during our 10th Anniversary season.
