EVERETT, Wash. – Tonight’s game ended the Americans’ perfect playoff record as the Tips were able to get a big game 1 win in their building, which is also their fifth playoff win in a row. The second line was by far the best line of the night this evening as they did a tremendous job shift in and shift out for the Tips. Although there were some untimely penalties, they were able to keep working and keep pushing—the theme of the year continues to be, “Never Quit.”
1) Garrett Pilon: Pilon continues to be explosive offensively as he got another pair of goals this evening, including the game winner for the Silvertips. Garrett not only scored two goals but he made key defensive plays in which he would carry the puck out of the Tips’ zone and individually skate through several Tri-City players to get great chances on Patrick Dea. Garrett now has 16 points through 11 playoff games and sits in first for most points by a Silvertip through these playoffs thus far and is 11th overall in the league.
2) Connor Dewar: Dewar is without a doubt one of the hardest working Tips on the team and it showed tonight in their big game 1 win against Tri-City. Dewar made an amazing pass to Pilon on the first goal to make it 1-0 Tips. Connor’s second goal, although it bounced off of an American, was an incredible individual effort. Connor carried the puck through the neutral zone in all alone through two defensemen where he got a shot off Dea. He kept working at the puck and frustrating the Americans until their player made the mistake and got it behind their own netminder to make it 2-0. With Connor’s two points tonight, he is tied with Bajkov for second most points by a Silvertip through these playoffs and is tied with 3 other players for 12th overall in the league.
3) Riley Sutter: Sutter has been coming up huge at big times throughout these playoffs. Sutter uses his size to muscle his opponents off of the puck and with the long reach of the stick is able to gain control while also making fantastic passes. This circumstance happened on the first goal his evening as he was able to get the man he was covering off the puck and feed Connor with the pass who quickly got it to Pilon. Sutter was excellent cycling the puck with Richie and Pilon on the game winner as Richie got the puck down low and was able to hit Sutter’s stick who fed it to Pilon for the game winner at a key moment in the game. Sutter now has 10 points through 11 playoff games.
