EVERETT, Wash. – The Everett Silvertips (@WHLSilvertips) announced today that defenseman Kevin Davis and forward Matt Fonteyne have been named Co-Captains of the Silvertips for the 2017-18 Season. Overage forward Patrick Bajkov and forward Connor Dewar will serve as alternate captains for the campaign.
Davis and Fonteyne open up the season with the Silvertips this Saturday for Opening Night, at XFINITY Arena against the Portland Winterhawks (7:05 p.m.), when the first 3,000 fans will receive a collectible Silvertips magnet schedule presented by Lamoureux Real Estate. Davis, 20, was last season’s runner up for the Brad Hornung Trophy as the WHL’s Most Sportsmanlike Player. The 6-foot, 185-pound defenseman had just 14 penalty minutes while never missing a game last season, additionally ranking third on the Silvertips in scoring and tied for eighth among WHL defensemen with 59 points (9g-50a). His 29 power play assists were tied for the lead and 37 points were second among league defensemen.
Last season he was named recipient of the Silvertips Most Improved Player and Iron Man awards. He has 109 points in 276 career WHL games – all in a Tips sweater – and ranks sixth on the Tips all-time games played list. He has skated in training camp at the NHL level with the Minnesota Wild and Edmonton Oilers.
Fonteyne, who turns 20 on Nov. 30, had a career high 20 goals last season and posted 47 points in 64 games during the Tips U.S. Division title clinching season. The 5-foot-9, 170 pound forward has 120 points and is +15 in 268 career Silvertips games while adding 14 points in 35 postseason games. He served as alternate captain, was the recipient of the Silvertips Community Relations award last season, and ranks tenth on the Silvertips all-time list in games played. He also was a Silvertips award recipient for Most Improved Player (2015-16), Scholastic Player of the Year (2013-14), and co-Iron Man (2015-16).
Bajkov, who turns 20 on Nov. 27, enters his final season in the WHL ranking on the all-time list with the Silvertips at fifth in points (188), fifth in assists (109), tied for fifth in goals (79), and ninth in games played (270). He served as alternate captain last season and led the Silvertips with a career high 78 points (29g-49a) in 71 games. He is a two-time co-recipient of the Silvertips Iron Man award and skated in training camp this month with the Vegas Golden Knights (NHL).
Dewar, 18, earned career highs in points (30), goals (14) and assists (16) last season while adding a goal and an assist in ten playoff games. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound forward has 48 points in 143 career games in a Silvertips sweater, adding two goals and an assist in 19 postseason games. Dewar was co-recipient of the Silvertips Iron Man Award and was named Silvertips Rookie of the Year in 2015-16. He participated in development camp this past summer with the Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL).
