EVERETT, Wash. – Dominic Zwerger scored twice and added an assist to help lift the Everett Silvertips to a 5-3 victory over the Spokane Chiefs before 3,502 fans on Sunday at XFINITY Arena.

The Silvertips are now 7-1-1 in their last nine games and are 2-1-0-0 in their three games in three days set. Thanks to two big goals from Zwerger and Riley Sutter with the game winner, the Tips are back at the top of the Western Hockey League.

With the Silvertips’ win this evening, they are now 2-1-1-0 against the Chiefs this season. Matt Fonteyne, Patrick Bajkov and Kevin Davis each had two assists.

Early into the game, Dominic Zwerger got a nifty feed from Matt Fonteyne and put the Tips on the board at 3:14. Montana Onyebuchi took a checking from behind penalty immediately after the goal but thanks to the special teams, the Tips managed to keep the Chiefs off the board. Hayden Ostir took a holding penalty at 6:25 but the Tips did not get many good chances and could not break through. The Tips’ power play had another look at 17:06 as Ethan McIndoe took a holding penalty. There were better chances on this power play but the Tips were unable to score and the period ended at 1-0.

The second period saw an immediate holding penalty by Keanu Yamamoto of the Chiefs, which lead to the Tips’ third power play of the evening. At 1:27 Dominic Zwerger scored a power play goal thanks to a saucer pass from Kevin Davis. Jaret Anderson-Dolan managed to cut the lead in half at 4:25 due to the Tips failing to clear the puck during continued pressure in their own end. At 5:52, Sean Richards took a slashing penalty but the Tips’ penalty kill and Mario Petit came up big to keep the score 2-1.

Thanks to the hard work of Patrick Bajkov and Matt Fonteyne, they were able to set up Graham Millar at 9:43 to make the score 3-1. 42 seconds later, Jaret Anderson-Dolan got his second of the night to make the score 3-2.

Spokane came out swinging in the third period, controlling a majority of the play to begin the period. Everett drew a holding penalty at 3:21 and 23 seconds into the power play, Riley Sutter was set up by Dominic Zwerger and Kevin Davis to make it 4-2. Spokane continued to put lots of pressure on the Tips and kept the puck in the Tips’ defensive zone for long periods of time.

At 7:47 Keanu Yamamoto made it a 4-3 game. Everett came up big for the rest of the game—making several big stops, blocking shots and were defensively sound. Spokane pulled the goaltender for the sixth attacker and Connor Dewar scored an unassisted empty net goal to make the final score 5-3.

Mario Petit’s counterparts, Jayden Sittler and Dawson Weatherill, each made 11 saves.

The Silvertips continue their home stand with a game against Tri-City on Friday, December 16 at 7:35PM PT (Fox Sports 1380 / WHL Live) at XFINITY Arena in Everett.
