RECAP / Put ‘Em On Ice
EVERETT, Wash. – Carter Hart’s 20 saves completed his third consecutive shutout while Eetu Tuulola tallied a goal and an assist to help the Everett Silvertips dismantle the Kootenay Ice, in a 5-0 victory in Wednesday WHL action at XFINITY Arena.
The first place Silvertips padded their lead in the U.S. Division to eight points and two in the Western Conference, as Hart’s shutout streak improved to 187:01, a new franchise record that surpassed David Reekie’s mark of 178:14.
Bryce Kindopp’s fourth goal (first of two in the game) put the Tips ahead, 1-0 at 8:24 of the first period on an attempted re-direction pass from the right circle, taking a ricochet off a Kootenay defender and past Payton Lee’s left pad.
Eetu Tuulola then took a feed from Devon Skoleski and sizzled a snap shot past Payton Lee for a 2-0 lead at 10:27 in the second period, followed by Bradly Goethals’ rocket from Orrin Centazzo and Tuulola for a power play goal at 15:55 of the period for a 3-0 cushion.
Hart, who made six saves in the third period, had his path cleared for the third straight blanking with back-to-back goals in the final frame for the Silvertips. Patrick Bajkov’s power play goal at 5:17, a drag and wrister move from between the circles put the Tips up 4-0 and Kindopp iced the game with a shorthanded breakaway goal with 1:39 to play.
Lee took the loss with 39 saves and Kootenay dropped their fourth straight defeat.
The Silvertips host the Medicine Hat Tigers, holders of the top record in the WHL, for their next game Friday at 7:35 p.m. at XFINITY Arena (1380 AM / 95.3 FM / Tips App). Tickets for Hockey Happy Hour, presented by Broad Stroke, are available at www.everettsilvertips.com/ticketpromos.
