Tonight was the first Teddy Bear Toss Rivalry Night since the Tips’ inaugural season. Long term fans would recall that the first outcome was not ideal, as the Tips were shutout by the T-Birds in that game.
15 years later, things have certainly changed – the feud between these Pacific Northwest teams is as fired up as ever and the Silvertips had the last laugh tonight.
7:57 into the first period, Martin Fasko-Rudas scored one of the most memorable goals of his career and it unleashed 9,719 bears onto the ice at Angel of the Winds Arena.
Thanks to his goal, and the 8,133 generous fans in attendance, the teddy bears will be donated to charity and will surely cheer up children who are in need.
The teddy bears made the Silvertips buzz in a big way through the rest of the game as they dominated the T-Birds in a 6-1 win. The T-Birds have yet to win a game against the Silvertips this year. The Tips have won 11 of their last 12 and continue to reign the top spot in the west, but if you were to ask any of their players, they would certainly say that this game stands out above the rest.
The Tips were dominate on the penalty kill again as Seattle came up empty handed on six attempts, making them perfect on the kill this weekend.
Tonight’s game was a team effort as 12 different Silvertips were on the scoreboard this evening. Fasko-Rudas, Sutter, Khaira and Kindopp each had multi-point games tonight.
It’s been an incredible year for Dustin Wolf as he now has 25 wins this season, which is the top for the WHL. He is in the top five for save percentage and goals against average. Wolf is settling into his number 1 job quite well.
The Tips get to go into the Christmas break with a statement win and look to finish out 2018 strong against division rival Spokane and Prince George.
