Carter Earns 2nd Straight WHL Goalie of the Week Award
EVERETT, Wash. – The Everett Silvertips (@WHLSilvertips) announced in conjunction with the Western Hockey League that goaltender Carter Hart has been named WHL Goaltender of the Week for his performance ending Nov. 27. Hart has been nominated for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week award.
This marks the second consecutive WHL Goaltender of the Week honor this year and six in the last two seasons for the 18-year-old Hart, who was also named recipient of the honor for the week ending November 20. He is the first WHL goaltender or player to win weekly honors for a second time during the 2016-17 season.
Hart, a product of Sherwood Park, AB, went 2-0-0-0 this past week, allowing no goals in 120 minutes of play and earning a 1.000 save percentage with two shutout victories. He made 37 saves in a 3-0 win versus the Seattle Thunderbirds on Wednesday before making another 26 stops in a 3-0 win versus the Prince George Cougars on Saturday.
The 6-foot-2, 180-pound goaltender was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the second round (48th) of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft after winning the Del Wilson Trophy (WHL Top Goaltender) and being named CHL Goaltender of the Year for the 2015-16 season.
Hart is 13-3-3-0 in 20 appearances this season, having registered a 1.67 GAA, .937 SV% and three shutouts along the way. He leads the WHL in GAA, SV% and shutouts. Hart’s 13 wins are good for third place in the WHL.
Hart is in his third WHL campaign, having compiled a record of 66-32-6-7, 2.12 GAA, .920 SV% and 13 shutouts in 115 career WHL regular season appearances. His 13 shutouts place him second on the Silvertips all-time list, recently surpassing Michael Wall.
