GAME RECAP: Americans sink Silvertips 6-2 in Kennewick

KENNEWICK, Wash. — An early onslaught sank the Silvertips in Kennewick, as the Tri-City Americans denied a playoff-clinching effort in a 6-2 final at the Toyota Center Wednesday night.

Adam Mechura opened the scoring with a takeaway behind the Everett net just 34 seconds into play, shortly followed by a Jalen Luypen powerplay goal at 3:52 and a Deagan McMillan two-on-one goal at 7:12. Silvertips goaltender Tyler Palmer was pulled in favor of Tim Metzger following the third goal.

Jordan Gavin extended the Americans lead to 4-0 at 8:10, capping off another odd-man rush. Kyan Grouette snapped the shutout at 18:05 in the second period, powering a wrist shot home for his second goal of the season.

Luypen netted his second of the game on the powerplay 1:01 into the third period. Ben Hemmerling scored a powerplay goal of his own at 3:36, his 20th goal o the campaign. Mechura tacked on a shorthanded goal at 10:09, completing a 6-2 final for Tri-City.

The Silvertips are in Langley battling the Vancouver Giants this Saturday, followed by a road game in Victoria taking on the Royals on Sunday. They return home Friday, March 3 hosting the Portland Winterhawks. Tickets are available by clicking HERE.
