Juulsen On the Threshold

EVERETT, Wash. – Everett Silvertips defenseman Noah Juulsen (JOOL-sen) is one of 30 players selected to participate in Hockey Canada’s National Junior Team Selection Camp, for the upcoming 2016 IIHF World Junior Championships. The camp will determine the final roster for Hockey Canada’s participation in the tournament.

The tournament, held this season in Finland, follows the Selection Camp, Dec. 10-14 at the MasterCard Centre in Etobicoke, Ontario. Team Canada will finalize its 22-man roster on Dec. 20 and tournament action gets underway Dec. 26 in Helsinki.

Juulsen, 18, has posted 10 points (3g-7a) and a +2 rating in 20 games with the Silvertips this season and has earned 72 points (14g-58a) in 148 career WHL games. He participated in main training camp this season with the Montreal Canadiens and skated in one preseason game vs. Ottawa at Bell Centre, registering two shots on goal, three hits, and one blocked shot.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound blueliner was Montreal’s first round selection (26th overall) at the 2015 National Hockey League Entry Draft and earned a career-high 52 points (9g-43a) in 68 games last season with Everett, leading all Silvertips defensemen while ranking tied for eighth among the WHL’s defensemen in scoring. He also posted three power play goals and his +22 rating was second on the club.

Juulsen skated in last season’s CHL Top Prospects Game, was invited to Canada’s National Junior Team summer development camp in July, and signed a three-year contract with the Canadiens on July 9. He is one of ten players from the WHL and one of 14 in Selection Camp with experience as a draftee in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft. In addition to Juulsen, the following Silvertips this season have been involved with international competition:

  • Carter Hart (G): Gold Medal at the 2015 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup tournament
  • Mitch Love: Gold Medal as assistant coach for Canada-Red at the Under-17 World Hockey Challenge
  • Dario Winkler (F): Participant in the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championships (Austria)

The Silvertips return home tomorrow for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Tri-City Americans. “Midweek Madness” welcomes the Silvertips back home for that night, offering fans two tickets (lower level) at just $10 exclusively online, a savings of over $13.
