PRESEASON » 3 for 11, Short by 1

LANGLEY, British Columbia – Orrin Centazzo’s hat trick and Martin Fasko-Rudas’ four points (1g-3a) were shaded by a three-goal comeback from the Vancouver Giants, who topped the Silvertips 5-4 on Sunday at Langley Events Centre in preseason action.

Alex Kannok Leipert scored the winner with seven seconds left and assisted on Aidan Barfoot’s game-tying goal with 4:13 to play, rescuing the Giants from a 4-2 deficit. The Silvertips record in pre-season play stands at 3-2-0-0, while Vancouver won their fourth in a row to finish their pre-season at 5-1-0-0. Next up, the Tips finish the pre-season schedule with a home-and-home series against the Seattle Thunderbirds, starting Sept. 15 at XFINITY Arena. Tickets are on sale at

Fasko-Rudas opened the scoring with 9:15 left in the first on a low shot from the left side, and Vancouver answered with 1:17 remaining on Austin King-Cunningham’s blast from the left circle off a face-off win.

Centazzo then took over, starting just 31 seconds into the second period for a 2-1 lead when he hustled for a tap at the goal mouth. Owen Hardy’s deflection on a point shot tied the game, 2-2 at 3:49, but Centazzo packaged back-to-back goals for a 4-2 Tips lead and his hat trick.

At 7:14, Centazzo converted on a battle at the goal mouth again and just 31 seconds into the third period, he capitalized on a Giants turnover with a backhanded deke over goaltender Todd Scott.

The Giants rally began at 8:19 when James Malm sliced the deficit to 4-3 and Aidan Barfoot tied the game when he converted a one-timer at 15:47.

Centazzo threatened for a four-goal game late but Scott delivered a glove save to keep the score tied. Kannok-Leipert then blasted the game winner with seven seconds left, set up by Malm.

Tips starter Danton Belluk went the distance in net and turned in 23 saves. Scott made 34 stops as the Tips outshot Vancouver, 38-28.

NOTES: The Silvertips scratched Patrick Bajkov, Pavel Azhgirei, Matt Fonteyne, Kyle Walker, Alex Moar, Kevin Davis, Connor Dewar, and goaltenders Dustin Wolf, Blake Lyda and Carter Hart … Bajkov (Vegas), Davis (Minnesota), and Hart (Philadelphia) are currently with their NHL clubs for training camp … Silvertip penalty killing neutralized all six Vancouver power play chances and is now 23-of-27 in the pre-season … Riley Sutter had a pair of assists after sitting out Saturday’s game, and has six points in four pre-season games.

Opening the Silvertips home schedule, covering 36 games this season at XFINITY Arena, is Opening Night against the Portland Winterhawks on Saturday, Sept. 23 (7:05 p.m.), when the first 3,000 fans will receive a collectible Silvertips magnet schedule, presented by Lamoureux Real Estate. All fans will also witness the raising of the Silvertips fifth U.S. Division championship banner to the rafters before the opening puck drop.
