Tips GM Garry Davidson Named WHL Western Conference Executive of the Year

EVERETT, Wash. – The Everett Silvertips (@WHLSilvertips), 2017-18 and six time U.S. Division champions, announced in conjunction with the Western Hockey League that general manager Garry Davidson has been named WHL Western Conference Executive of the Year.

Davidson is in his sixth full season as general manager of the Silvertips, named to the position in February 2012. Since taking over the franchise, Davidson has led the Tips with a constructed roster that has evolved into five consecutive winning seasons, including the team’s sixth U.S. Division title this season adding to a record of 211-105-26-18 under Davidson’s tenure in the last five regular seasons.

“What’s important to recognize is that an honor like this  is a ‘team award’ and the results of hard work by many in the Silvertips organization,” said Davidson. “It comes with a large amount of gratitude to be named WHL Western Conference Executive of the Year. Our ownership, coaching staff, players, scouting staff, and additional staff have all extended tremendous effort to lead us to positive results this season so far and continue help us build on our culture in Everett.”

Under his watch, four Silvertips have been selected in the first or second round of the NHL Entry Draft and last summer, seven Silvertips were selected to participate with NHL teams in development camps. Forward Patrick Bajkov, originally selected by the Silvertips in the 2012 WHL Draft, was signed by the Panthers toward the conclusion of the 2017-18 regular season.

This season, with head coach Dennis Williams serving in his first campaign behind the Silvertips bench as head coach, the Tips earned their  second largest total in wins (47) and third most points (99) in franchise history. The Silvertips went 37-8-1-2 since Nov. 19, seizing their sixth U.S. Division title in franchise history while accumulating seven 20-goal scorers, most for one season in Tips history. The Silvertips also scored 245 goals to set a new single season franchise record, were second in the league for goal differential (+80), and earned eight goals or more in a game on five separate occasions.

Davidson’s career in hockey has spanned over three decades and prior to the Silvertips, he spent four seasons as Director of Player Personnel for the Portland Winterhawks from 2008-11. In that role he served a key role in Portland’s Bantam Draft selections and scouting of recruited players who helped the program emerge from a last place finish to three straight WHL Finals appearances.
