The Tips fell into a 2-0 hole late in the first period, first when Riley Stotts chipped a feed by Orca Wiesblatt for his 13th goal at 16:17 and Egor Zamula fired his seventh goal off traffic from the right point, tumbling into the net for a two-man advantage goal with 1:06 remaining.
Unfazed by the deficit, the Tips went to work and got back into the game on Kindopp’s rebound goal at the net, set up by Cole Fonstad’s dangle and snap shot at 3:33 for a 2-1 deficit. Stotts and the Hitmen came back to increase the lead to 3-1 at 9:26 on his 14th goal of the season from the low slot, but the Tips responded on Jalen Price’s snap shot past Jack McNaughton from the right circle with 4:59 to play in the period.
It was the goal that turned momentum, for good.
Jake Christiansen and the Tips took over in the third period to seize their third come-from-behind win in seven tries when trailing after two periods. Christiansen tied the game just 1:09 into the third after Justyn Gurney’s face-off win rolled the puck to the Tips defenseman, who buried a snap shot from the left side.
Christiansen came back and belted a one-timer from the left circle, set up by Butt, past McNaughton for a 4-3 Tips lead at 7:32 of the third period. The Hitmen earned a mid-period power play, threatening to tie the game, but Jett Woo’s tripping call ended the threat and on the ensuing face-off, Kindopp and Christiansen worked the puck to Wyatte Wylie, uncorking a snap shot past McNaughton’s blocker for a 5-3 lead with 9:38 left.
Butt set up Martin Fasko-Rudas for a one-timer between the circles to seal the game at 6-3 with 3:45 left.
McNaughton took the loss with 20 stops.
