WORLD JUNIORS // Wolf to Represent Team USA

Wolf to chase gold medal for Team USA at World Juniors, opening Dec. 26

EVRETT, Wash. – The Everett Silvertips (@WHLSilvertips) announced in conjunction with Team USA today that goaltender Dustin Wolf has been named to the United States roster for the upcoming 2020 IIHF World Junior Championships, Dec. 26 – Jan. 5 in Ostrava and Trinec, Czech Republic.

Wolf joins Martin Fasko-Rudas (Slovakia) at the tournament, to represent a pair of Silvertips chasing the gold medal in the tournament, last achieved by Silvertip representation in the 2018 tournament when goaltender Carter Hart, currently suiting up for the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League, was the winning goaltender in net when Team Canada captured the gold medal in Buffalo, N.Y.

Wolf, 18, is the WHL leader in save percentage (.941) and shutouts (5), also ranking second in goals-against-average (1.91), third in wins (17) with a 17-6-1-0 record in 23 games. The native of Tustin, Calif. was selected by the Calgary Flames in the seventh round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft and was named WHL Vaughn Goaltender of the Month on Oct. 31 with a CHL-leading .945 save percentage, and two shutouts in 10 games.

IMG_0884Wolf last season was named WHL Western Conference Goaltender of the Year, CHL Scholastic Player of the Year, Silvertips Most Dedicated Player, and recipient of the Silvertips Community Relations, and Scholastic Player of the Year awards. In 2018-19, he broke the Silvertips record and led the WHL in wins (41), also leading the league in save percentage (.936), goals-against-average (1.69), and minutes (3,615).

He was named WHL Western Conference first team All-Star last season, also suiting up for Team USA this summer at the World Junior Summer Showcase.

Wolf’s 16 shutouts are third in Silvertips all-time history and is 71-27-3-2 with a .936 save percentage and a 1.85 goals-against-average in 105 career games.

Team USA is led by general manager John Vanbiesbrouck and coaching staff: head coach Scott Sandelin, and assistant coaches David Lassonde, Steve Miller, Brett Larson, and Jerry Keefe. The national program skated in training camp for the event last December in downtown Everett, has medaled in four straight tournaments and last season earned the silver medal in competition at Victoria and Vancouver. All Team USA games for the 2020 World Junior Championships will be carried live in the United States on NHL Network (check local listings)
