Tips Select Vladimir Dolnik at CHL Import Draft

The Everett Silvertips selected Slovakian forward Vladimir Dolnik with the 21st pick of the CHL Import Draft Wednesday morning.

The 1993-born Dolnik stands 6’2 and weighs 187 pounds.  The left-handed shooter appeared in six games at the recent World U-18 Championships in Germany, recording two goals and an assist for three points along with six penalty minutes.  Dolnik played for the U-18 Banska Bystrica team in 2010-11, totaling 45 points (21-24-45) and 75 penalty minutes in 35 games, and also appeared in nine games for the U-20 Banska team, recording 11 points (7-4-11) and eight penalty minutes.

Previous Silvertips selected in the CHL Import Draft include Ivan Baranka (Slovakia – 2003), Martin Ruzicka (Czech Republic – 2003), Karel Hromas (Czech Republic – 2004), Ondrej Fiala (Czech Republic – 2005), Lukas Vartovnik (Slovakia – 2006), Vitaly Karamnov (Russia – 2007), Radko Gudas (Czech Republic – 2009), Rasmus Rissanen (Finland – 2009) and Jesse Huhtala (Finland – 2010).

The Silvertips also possess the 81st overall pick in the 2011 CHL Import Draft.  Each team in the CHL is permitted to carry two European Import players each season.  These players are selected annually at the Import Draft, with the order of selection rotating through each of the three leagues in the CHL using an inverse order of their final regular season standings from the 2010-11 season.

International Scouting Services report on Vladimir Dolnik:
A talented goal scoring winger, Dolnik was one of the Slovaks who managed to really stand out as the tournament progressed.  He has good size with lots of room to build muscle.  He can be pretty choppy around the puck but consistently finds himself in good situations and with scoring opportunities.  He can drive the middle well with the puck and shows a developing knowledge of how to use his basic power elements.  He is a good skater but like his hands, he has lots of room to improve that skill as well.  He shows very strong confidence around the puck and isn’t afraid to do battle to win space or maintain possession.  Dolnik tallied two goals and an assist to go with six penalty minutes in six tournament games.
