At the special invitation of the Navy Recruiting District Seattle, Everett Silvertips goaltender Luke Siemens participated in the SEAL Fitness Challenge on Friday, August 12th at the Naval Station Everett. This one day challenge featured a series of physical fitness events challenging athletes to maximize their performance in individual tests of strength and endurance.
The event closely mirrors the initial physical screening test given to anyone who desires to become a Navy SEAL.
Events in the challenge consisted of:
• 500-yard swim (10 minutes rest)
• Maximum number of push-ups in 2 minutes (2 minutes rest)
• Maximum number of sit-ups in 2 minutes (2 minutes rest)
• Maximum number of pull-ups in 2 minutes (10 minutes rest)
• 1.5 mile run
With Silvertips training camp less than two weeks away, Siemens tackled the challenge on Friday to see how an elite level hockey player would stack up to some of America’s finest service men and women.
“It was a different ball game than training for hockey,” Siemens said. “I came here thinking that it would be easier than it was. I was proven wrong and now have a whole new respect for these elite members of the military. This would be a great teambuilding experience for our whole team.”
