On Thursday, July 23, 2020, a landmark day arrived in the history of Puget Sound sports.
The Everett Silvertips helped welcome the identity of their new Naitonal Hockey League neighbor.
The Seattle Kraken, the league’s 32nd team and who will play out of Climate Pledge Arena – just a short 25 mile commute south of Everett, will open NHL play in the 2021-22 season.
And perhaps, what was a glimpse of the NHL’s future in the Puget Sound when a near sellout crowd packed downtown Everett for an NHL pre-season game before the 2009-10 season, now brings the lives of many Silvertips to an even greater spotlight.
As of today, a total of 19 Silvertips have already reached the NHL. Two more were drafted by NHL teams last year, three overagers signed NHL contracts last year, and by the end of this year – four Silvertips reached NHL Central Scouting’s radar for the upcoming draft.
